Cleo Basket Blocks

My posting is going to be a little sporadic for the next month. My husband and I going to be moving. (We live a crazy life we also moved in May)Good thing is I left a lot of things packed knowing we would be moving again. I'm looking forward to being settled in a house we are going to stay in for a while. Now some quilty stuff.


Here are some basket blocks that I've been working on. I thought I could work on my applique skills on the handles. I would love to do an all applique quilt someday.

I had to move Lucy 4 times before I got a picture with out her sitting on the blocks. LOL

Chinese Checkers Finish

I finished the Chinese checker top. Posting on the blog that you are going to finish something does give you extra motivation. The top is 79 x 68 and the back and binding are going to be the same as the back ground fabric.



Had to post this picture of Lucy the cat. She just loves flowers. Always sticking her nose in them and smelling them. What a goof ball

I'm trying to finish this quilt. I have about 8 more seams to sew and add the pieces around the out side to square it up. Then I might add a scrappy border yet.
Have to see how much fabric I have for the backing as to how big the front can be.
The pattern is suppose to remind you of a Chinese checkers game. I seen a similar quilt at a show and made up my own pattern from that.

Postage Stamp

One of the things I've been doing since I first started sewing was cutting up my smallest scraps in to postage stamp squares. Then I keep a few by my sewing machine to sew. I slip one in at the end of a chain of pieces. Or do a few when ever. Here is what I did with my 1st set of blocks. I found the setting fabric at a fabric store on the clearance rack. I drew a quilting pattern in the alternate blocks. I've got a few blocks quilted. Right now I almost have a second set of blocks done. Need to find something different to do with them

One of the things I've been doing since I first started sewing was cutting up my smallest scraps in to postage stamp squares. Then I keep a few by my sewing machine to sew. I had these blocks setting around for about 4 years before I finally put them together into a top. I didn't like the colors I had chosen whites and blacks. There was just to much contrast. Almost put them in a box for the good will. Then I thought let's try dyeing it.


So I sewed up the top added a couple rows of border. Made a back and cut some binding. Put it all in some tan Rites dye. And the results were a lot more pleasing to me. Made all the fabrics seam more related. The colors blend better. Guess I just like tamer color schemes. The quilt still needs to be quilted but I finally got it together.

4 patch

Been really busy the last week. But I did manage to finish quilting this quilt. I still need to put on the binding. The pattern was called 4 patch. It's 1 large half square triangle 2 smaller hst and 1 square. These blocks are 4 1/2" square. Half the blocks have a dark square and dark large hst and the other have a light square and large hst. The blocks are sewn into blocks of 4. With the large hst in the centers of the dark squared blocks. And the light squared blocks have the squares in the centers. Making secondary patterns. I think it's fun to try to find the pattern in quilts like this. Hope you understand my explanation of the piecing. It is a easy pattern once you get started. I used this quilt to clean out my blue scraps.
