Projects

7 more Dear Jane blocks done. All though I think I might redo a couple of these yet. The light tan one was challenging and still not as good as I would like it but, after 3 tries it might be as good as it gets. And don't look at the light green one.
I did some project calculating. So far this year I finished 1 quilt and started 4. So I'm working on 43 quilts right now. Better then it was.
4 quilts only need binding
3 quilts I'm hand quilting
1 quilt ready to machine quilt
22 finished tops (flimsies)
13 quilts I'm piecing

2011 Judy's UFO Challange

Judy's UFO challange for the year sounds like fun. Check it out HERE. I need all the motivation I can get. I guess I' in. My list of 12 quilts.

1.) Spools quilt the top is done needs batting and to be quilted.

2.) Basket quilt it's all ready to be quilted I was just waiting to start the quilting on this one because I was thinking of hand quilting it instead of machine quilting but, I really don't see that happening.

3.) This quilt is called grandma's flower garden and is ready to be quilted.

4.)Grey bias tape string quilt. Needs binding on it. That's all and it would be done.

5.) Stripes quilt this one needs the binding hand sewn down. It's been like that for at least a year all finished binding sewn on just needs some hand sewing.

6.) Broken dishes it's about half quilted.

7.) Double wedding ring. I'm hand quilting this one and hope it doesn't get picked right away I have a lot of hours to put into it yet but would be great to get it done.

8.)Whirly bird it's just a flimsy right now I might just tie this one or do a combination of tying and machine quilting.

9.) No picture but the UFO number nine will be to get all the small doll quilts I've got started done.

10.) A star BOM that Judy did a while back. I've got the blocks done I was just a little confused on the sashing and not sure whaat direction to take so I haven't looked at them for awhile.

11.)Snails tail it's an old UFO.

12.)Jack's chain a real challenge quilt I would at least like to get the top pieced and ready for quilting.

Some Organizing

This is how I've been keeping my projects organized I have more containers with projects but no room on the dresser to add them. I just don't have the shelve space to store them this way. They also do not look very neat or tidy. It's handy to have them sorted this way though. But
I've let myself get too many.

Okay I put most of the projects in grocery, plastic or zip bags. I have a few more tubs to clean out yet. I was able to put the sacks in this one larger tub. Let's call it the pig pen.(PIGS projects in grocery sacks)I thought it was really funny!! I have my pigs in the pen. And last I dug out this basket. Looks nice on the shelve instead of all different kinds of tubs. I was able to put 3 of the projects I'm piecing into it. I like sewing more then one project at a time. The plan is to work on the projects in the basket. I can scoop every thing back in the basket real quick and put it on the shelve for the realtor for a house showing. Then take the basket down and start right in sewing after the showing. Hope it works. When I finish piecing a top/project I can then add a pig/project from the pig pen and start working on it. I hope I can follow through on this for awhile.

Lady of Lake

I spent the first few days of the week working on string blocks. I think my strings are under control again they seem to multiply on their own some times. On Thursday I dug these lady of the lake blocks. They were bonus HST from the spool quilt I did. (PHOTO)
I followed a photo I had seen on line for the lay out on these blocks and now wish I had did it a little different but, I'm not going back now. I like that all the lights are touching the center. But I think the corners are off. I should of put squares in the corners maybe. I made this one a few years ago. On that one all the darks were pointing up the same way.

These HST where with the others so I sewed them up for a doll quilt. They got a little wonky. Hope I can fix most of it when I quilt it. Had to add a scissor so You get an idea of scale.

And over the weekend I played with some applique. Don't know what it will be just trying out some different applique methods and looks. Maybe a nice potholder.

Finish Five By End Of July Challange

Happy in Quilting's Challenge
I stated the challenge by machine quilting the star quilt. It has been sitting around for a few years ready for quilting. I then had a very busy July very busy. So my other finishes were not as big. I completed this doll quilt.
I'm counting these blocks as my third finish. I started these at least 6 years ago I completed the last of the applique this week there is 30 of them. I haven't decided yet to either sew the top as straight block set or make some setting blocks for alternate blocks. Have to do some figuring on sizes. For me to get these blocks finally done is as big as finishing the star quilt.

I've been wanting to make a doll quilt in this pattern for quite a while so I know it's not much but I did get the top done I should be able to quilt it and finish in a couple of days.
My last goal for the challenge was to catch up with the dear baby Jane group. I am still 4 blocks behind but hope to do a lot of sewing this week end.

Over my Limit on Stash

I'm having my brother and his family stay with us for the first 2 weeks of July. He live 4 states a way and I'm really looking forward to the visit. So I have to clean my sewing room. In case they peek in it I don't want them to think I'm a crazy quilting person lol. My sewing room is a converted 6x8 storage closet. I have a counter top on one 6 foot wall I have my sewing machine on and a dresser on the other wall I use for storage and the top for cutting. I have the shelves for storage. I've been trying to get all of my sewing stuff in the room for a while and was doing really good until last month. Mill End Fabric Store had a really good sale etc. etc. you know how it goes. I have been trying to get all my folded fabric to fit on this shelve. (each stack is about 100 yards) To clean the room (see the floor agine)I had to fill 2 Rubbermaid tubs with fabric. Plus the one I had. So I am three tubs over my limit.

Here are my drawers of precut scraps. I have 2 small ones and 2 nice ones on wheels that fit under the counter. I plan on making some nice labels when I get a chance so ignore the ones I have now.
They also are pretty stuffed full.
I made the strip quilt using these and hardly made a dent. I really need to fabric diet and bust some stash. Guess I have something to keep me busy this winter.
