Quilt Show

Went to a local quilt show last week. I was a little disappointed with the quilts that where on display. Nothing real inspiring. I did take a couple pictures to share. First is a really easy looking scrap quilt. I loved the colors.

And the second was from a booth of a LQS. I like this pattern, and the colors they used. Sorry don't remember pattern name. I need to write things down. I think it was prairie flowers or something like that.

Going away for the weekend won't be back until Monday. Hope you all have a nice weekend

Squares Quilt Done

I've been doing binding for a week 1st the 4 patch and then this quilt. The squares were cut at 2 1/4 inches sewn to 1 3/4 inches. To make 12" finished blocks with 49 squares in each block. Having a blog has really helped to make me finish up these quilts.

Pine Burr Blocks

Here is the pine burr quilt that I started in December. The pattern is one of the free patterns from quilters cache. (http://www.quilterscache.com/) The blocks are 12" square. And I plan on setting them 5 across and 6 down then some kind of border. Haven't planned that far yet. I'm all out of creams for the back ground so I need to buy 3 or 4 more and enough of one of these for the back and the binding. Other wise it is all from stash. The black fabric was rescued from an Aunt that was "going to throw that ugly old stuff away" I've been hoarding it for about 5 years looking for the right pattern that would really high light it. When I'm done I have to show it to my aunt. She will get a chuckle out of it.

Thought I would include a pic of the back of a block. The centers are paper pieced. I've never tried this before. It's a little time consuming but the blocks come out very square.

new house

Thought I would share a pic of the new house my husband and I are moving into.
It's in a bigger town about 70 miles from where we live now. Both of our adult children live there. Our son has been there 1 year and our daughter 4 years.
We've decided to down size. Smaller house smaller yard. But some how the garage is just a little bit bigger. hmmm We are closing out our home building business here and are going to semi retire. ( Maybe I could work at the LQS would that be work or just fun) We've been moving every 1 or 2 years here so the idea of staying in one place for a while sounds so appealing. More to do in a bigger town. Closer to our kids. The bad thing is leaving our friends here. But it's not that far. We will still keep in touch.

Whirly bird blocks

I've been playing with these left over hst from a quilt top I finished. I posted a picture of it 5/08/2006 Scrap Angels Quilt Top. It's smaller then I originally planned. So I had leftovers. Made some pinwheel blocks. Then cut some more to make them come out even. I need to press the blocks and square them up. Trying to come up with how to set them in a quilt. First I thought just alternate blocks with plain blocks.

Then I thought maybe a random lay out. But I like quilts that look antique. Or else I could alternate with stepping stones blocks. That would mean more sewing.
I would have to sew the stepping stone blocks.

This block is my favorite.

Guess I'm leaning toward a random setting. I've never tried that before.

Bars Quilt Quilting

I guess I didn't explain what I was going to do to this quilt very well. I'm not used to typing my thoughts. I'm more of a talker. Some of you are very good at expressing your thought on your blog. I wish I was better. Any way. I thought maybe I should quilt a sample block. So I could get an idea of how it would look. Which I then turned in to a pot holder/glass coaster.

Originally I had seen an Antique quilt using this pattern and it was tied. So I thought I would combine tying it with quilting it. I am going to use all black but my embroidery thread is all ready moved to the new house. I did find some green so I used that. I hope this is a clearer explanation of my plans. Oh the bars are cut to measure 2" x 5 1/2 " before sewing. And the sashing is 3" wide before sewing.

Bars Quilt

Here’s a quick quilt I started when I joined stash busters this spring. I finished it last month. I plan on using it for a throw in the living room. It's made from scraps that go with that room. I think I will put 2 knots of black embroidery thread on each bar. And quilt in black thread on the long strips. And around each bar.
