The quilt for the MT Quilt Swap is almost ready for quilting. When I got the name of the person I was making the quilt for, it turned out to be someone whose blog I follow, so I actually "know" her. Even though she had posted some pictures of quilts she likes as inspiration, I was completely stumped as to which direction to take. Then I had one of those lightbulb moments where I think there was actually a flash of light above my head. Do you ever get those? One of those forehead-slapping moments when you can only say, "DUH!" Since I'm in my selvage-obsessed phase, and having recently been totally blown away from this quilt by Jacquie at Tallgrass Prairie Studio, of course my quilt had to incorporate selvages. Lucky for me that I have them all categorized!
It then became my mission to personalize it as much as possible. Of course I can't show the parts that are especially related to her, like her name, something related to where she lives and her occupation, because it's a surprise!
But here are a few glimpses of the not-secret parts.
A little selvage from the state I live in. See it?
Some of my favorite things, so she gets to know me a little better, and of course the famous "dumb dot," the selvage that started it all.
Hope you like it, _____________!

Quilters are amazingly inspiring and generous. I read this line yesterday in the introduction to
Material Obsession Two: Making quilts connects quilters to each other. I couldn't have said it better.
