McFatty Monday Update

Yes, this week calls for a celebration. I lost 2.2 pounds and finally broke through the 15 pound mark!!!!! That 15 pounds was haunting me for several weeks with very small gains and losses, I was hovering at 14.6-14.8 for a while.

The thing that I feel helped the most was actually putting a goal down here on my blog that you can read about here and this gives me some accountability. This means that I am 7.2 pounds away from my short term goal of 10% down by Labor day, that will be a total of 24 pounds gone forever! Yes that means I started out at a whopping 240 pounds.....and my total goal is to weigh 150 pounds.

One reason I did not mention last week as a reason for wanting to lose weight is....I long to weigh less than my husband. If there is one thing you should know about Brian, it is that he is tall and thin and has a hard time gaining weight (he is lucky I love him so much, because I could really cuss him out about this.) Another reason is I want my BMI to be a number I am proud of then my doctor will not have to lecture me at every physical about being so heavy.

Here are the two numbers I strive for and will love to shout proudly when they are reached: 150 pounds and 22 BMI. If you have numbers you strive for and want to shout now or someday, leave me a comment! We are all here to support each other in all of life's journeys.

McFatty Monday Update

Well, last week was better than the week before. I only lost a 1/2 pound, and I am grateful that I did not gain any last week. This week my leader gave us some homework that I am going to complete here.

Question #1 - Why do you want to lose weight and what does goal look like (not the number you want to be at for goal)?

I would love to buy this outfit in a single digit size!

Answer: To me the reasons for losing weight are many but the main reason is I want to live to see all the stages of my son's life. I want to grow old and see my grandchildren. I want to decrease the amount of medication I have to take. and I want to look good naked in a bathing suit!

Question #2 - What are your goals for the next 8 weeks leading up to Labor Day?
Answer: My goal for the next 8 weeks is to hit 24 pounds gone, and then I will be 10% lighter than I started and feeling great about the next step. That leaves me 10 or so pounds left to lose to reach this goal in 8 weeks. I know I can do it but I have to convince my brain!

Such a cute bike!

Question #3 - What do I need to do to accomplish these goals?
Answer: The number one thing I have to do to achieve these goals is, wait for it......stick to the WW program!!!! That includes tracking EVERYTHING I eat and eating the things that are best for me. The second thing I need to do is increase my movement. I can't say the word.....exercise.... because then I won't do it!! I am not a person who enjoys the gym, I have to trick my brain into thinking it is not exercising. I have all the tools I need to take care of this, I just need to use the tools!!

I hope everyone has a wonderful week!! Feed your body well and lets all move a little more!! We will all feel better!! ~Namaste~

McFatty Monday Update

Ok, I think I am torturing myself. My goal from last week was to be at 15 lbs, well I got close. I lost 0.6 lbs to get me to 14.8 lbs.......REALLY???

I think this is going to force me to move my body more because I know I am eating better. I am eating far less than I used to and making much better choices. Last week there was not a lot of exercise being done in my house.

I am glad I did lose weight and ecstatic that I did not gain any but I really want to lose more than I am in any given week. This week our meeting topic was about weighing and measuring all our food, which I can say I do half-ass. I always weigh or measure some things and others I have never measured. Since I went to the meeting on Saturday I have done much better with the exception of Father's Day dinner, I gave myself that meal off. I hope this helps me out this week and I will make a bigger effort to get my body moving.  I hope everyone has a happy and healthy week!!

McFatty Monday Update

WOO HOO!!! I have made it through two very difficult weeks, wanting to give up and eating horribly! I faced the music on Saturday and stepped on the scale and lost 1.6 lbs!! This brings me to 14.2 lbs lost so far and next week I will be celebrating 15+ lbs lost!! I have a renewed energy for the program and I am working harder to keep on track and keep myself interested in losing weight. After so many years of looking for that magic pill that will make me a size 6 overnight, I have come to realize that albeit slow, this method is working because I am so much more aware of what I am eating and why I am eating. It does not hurt that quite a few people have told me that they can tell I am losing weight and I was able to get into some pants this last weekend that I have been wanting to fit for a while. I am going to celebrate this week, but not with the cake that is above. I just found this picture to be ironic to this post.

The thing that makes me to most happy is that I have inspired my mom to join Weight Watchers when she has completely healed from her surgery. She has lost some weight through her recovery and she is ready to lose more and she hears me tell her all the time that I feel satisfied with the food I am allotted each day and I don’t feel like I am on a diet. I am starting to feel much better about my progress and happy to be getting healthier. I hope everyone has a Happy and Healthy week!!

McFatty Monday Update

So, this week I was a coward!!!! I went to my meeting, and decided I was not going to weigh in.  I have been so far off track for the last week and I was not emotionally ready to face the number on the scale!  I think I made the choice to not even try, the thought that actually ran through my head was, “I don’t care if I stay fat forever.”  Irrational I know, but it seemed perfectly rational at the time and I am sure I was eating one of the Ding Dongs we purchased for my husband.  I have not had a Ding Dong in years and have no idea what possessed me to eat one at that time.
I have not exercised much control over the food going into my mouth for the last week, nor have I actually exercised this past week.  I am however proud that I did get my big ass out of bed on Saturday and sit through my meeting.  That has motivated me to get back on track and I have been eating better since then.  I also walked a 5K on Sunday with my WW leader and my family.  That made me feel better about myself and the whole weight loss process.
Since the I have hopped off the “Crazy Train” that I was riding for a week and I am back on track with my eating and food tracking….stay tuned to the new weight loss that I will be able to report next week!! Have a happy and healthy week!!

McFatty Monday Update - Memorial Day

So last week I did not have time to do the Monday update, or maybe I did not want to report another set back. I had a much better week this week. I lost 1.6 (but last week I gained 1.4) so all together I am down by 12.6. Still not bad in my opinion, I am at least fitting into most of my smaller clothes and feeling better every day. This weekend has been a true test and let me tell you, I did not pass the test yesterday. I think I was tired of watching what I eat and decided that yesterday was going to be a free for all day. Well, I ate pretty bad and did not feel too great last night. Lesson learned, bad food = bad feeling. I think I ate bad for so long before that I did not notice how bad that food made me feel and now that I am eating much better, that food, while it is so yummy, can only be consumed in small amounts or I feel like crap.

Today we are thinking of all the service men and women who have sacrificed so much for our freedom and we are thankful! I hope everyone has a very happy and healthy Memorial Day and week!

McFatty Monday Update

YAHOOOOO!!! I have finally hit my first big goal. I am officially 5% lighter than when I started Weight Watchers!! Last week was a much better week at work (not as much stress) and I was not as inclined to eat my way through the week. I also went back to my high water intake. I know this works  and I am not sure why I let that slide. I need to remember how much this program works and I just have to work it for myself. This weekend was a bit of a challenge with a graduation party and the Walk of Faith (a 5k walk that I don't get to walk, I have to work) and all the food that came with that. This mornig I am right back on the program and ready to lose more weight. Last week I lost 5.4 lbs for a total weight loss of 12.4 lbs. My next goal is 10% which is 24 lbs. Wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy week!!

McFatty Monday Update

Well......last week was horrible!! All the weight I lost the week I was sick, I gained back. Last week I gained 3.8 pounds. I am trying not to beat myself up too much about this because it is only a minor set back in this long journey. So now I am back down to 7 pounds down. I am still proud of the fact that I am on this journey and have lost 7 pounds.

Last week was not only horrible for my weight loss. It was a very stressful and busy week at work. I happen to be a stress eater so last week was very hard for me. My biggest problem is that I did not take the time to track everything I put in my mouth. I think if I would have tracked everything early in the week, I may have been so horrified by Friday that I would have had to fast that day. So far this week I am back on track. I am eating the right foods and tracking all that crosses my lips. I hope everyone has a happy and healthy week!

McFatty Monday Update

What a week!!!!! So if you remember correctly, last week I reported a 3.8 pound weight loss. This week I am reporting a giant goose egg. Yes, I stayed the same last week. However, I am not going to complain about this. I had such a hard week emotionally last week that I was surprised I did not gain any weight. Linda, mom of a very good friend of mine, passed away suddenly on Thursday and that was not the best way for me to end my week. I happen to be a stress eater! If only I could be a stress runner!!Linda was like a second mom to me through High School and the news of her illness and passing threw me into a little tailspin on Thursday and Friday. That combined with Easter and all it's glorious candy was my demise last week.

Thank goodness for a new week & a new month. April was very difficult and I am glad it is in the past!! I am so happy to still be almost 11 pounds lighter. The great news is that I was switching out my wardrobe from Fall/Winter to Spring/Summer and almost all of my Spring/Summer shorts and Capri pants fit me. The few that don’t fit me, I can put them on and almost button them. That is a huge accomplishment for me!! My goal for this week is to lose 2 pounds so I can get my 5% sticker, again I love that I am motivated the same way my 5 year-old is!!

Have a Happy and Healthy week!!!!!

McFatty Monday Update

Well friends, I did it!! I have passed the 10 pound mark with my weight loss!! Last week I lost 3.8 pounds and I was so happy I did a little dance! I am sure it helped a little that I had a stomach bug and did not eat for one whole day. However it happened, I'll take it!! I have lost a total of 10.8 pounds to date and this week my goal is to lose 2 more pounds so I can make it to my 5% mark.

Each time you hit a mark in Weight Watchers you get a sticker. I have actually turned into a 5 year-old and I am motivated by stickers for my folder. I have two so far, one for each 5 pound weight loss I have achieved. The 5% sticker is a big one and I can't wait to have that one.
The beginning of this week has been a challenge. Easter was not the hard part, much to my surprise. Today at work was horrible. There seems to be a common thought amongst people that you need to take a lot of candy to places with children on every holiday. My place of business was a victim of these thoughts, there was so much candy in our break room today because there is only so much candy you need to give to a child then you have to share it with the staff. Every time I went into the kitchen to fill my water, I found myself grabbing a piece of candy. I have no idea why, I was not hungry. I think I will have to do some extra walking this week to ensure I make my goal. I know today is over and I can only hope that all the other people I work with have consumed all that candy and it will not be in there to tempt me tomorrow.

I wish you all a wonderful week filled with limitless willpower!!!

McFatty Monday Update

The last two weeks have been very hard for me. With all that has been going on with my mom my weight loss was not the first thing on my mind. I did not have an update last week because I was not really blogging much through all that time. Last week I gained 0.2 when I weighed in. I know most of that was simply stress. I did manage to eat well most of the days, I think I just ate too much because I am a stress eater. If only I could be a stress runner!

This week was much better I lost 2 pounds when I weighed in on Saturday. I feel back on track. My stress level has gone down and I think I will be back on my regular schedule this week.

The thing that is hardest for me is the feeling I get when I don't lose weight or gain weight. I feel off track and I get discouraged. Last week I was too damn busy to host my pity party so I had to just go on and stay on track. I think the key to my success through stressful times is just to be too keep myself busy so I don't get too down on myself.

My challenge for this week will be today, we have an all day budget planning meeting for work and we are off site, eating lunch out and will have snacks around all day. Most of the people I work with are also trying to be healthy and they are bringing healthy snacks. There are, of course, the few that will bring some crap that no one needs and we will all be tempted by. I know for a fact that there will be bagels and possibly doughnuts in some form. Since we are all taking a snack I decided to take a snack I know I can eat so I can ensure I don't feel deprived of the snacking experience. (god forbid I don't have a snack!) Here's to a great week for everyone!!!

McFatty Monday Update

Last week was a good week, I was back at work and in my regular routine. I have a friend at work that is also doing Weight Watchers and it helps so much to be doing this with other people. On Saturday I weighed in and lost 2.6 pounds! YAY! They gave me a sticker for losing my first 5 pounds and now I am just like my five-year-old, working each day for another sticker.  My Aunt Jackie (weight loss buddy) also lost more than 2 pounds last week. So proud of her!!

I was super nervous about this weight in because Friday was such a hard day for me. I am a support person for our event team that plans special events for our agency. This means that when they are stressed about an upcoming event, I am stressed as well. We have an event tonight (see my worries about this below), and Friday was a very busy day for me. Then, we had a going away party at work and there was pizza, cake and other yummy stuff. I made it through the actual party pretty well, mostly salad, fruit and one small piece of cheese only pizza. No cake, no pie, no bad stuff. Then I went into the kitchen to refill my water cup and there it was, a huge, chocolate cake. I tried to ignore it. I tried just smelling it. But in the end it won out and I had a bite, okay it was a BIG bite that most people might call a "small" piece. After I ate the cake, that tasted divine, I did not feel any better, in fact I felt pretty bad about my choice. Lesson Learned!

My worries this week include, but are not limited to, a baby shower I went to on Saturday. Again, I had cake, but this cake I had already planned for in my weekly points. The event tonight at a very nice steakhouse that has wonderful food and most of the food for tonight is appetizers, never low in calories. I am hoping I will be so busy I will not have time to each much, but let's face it, I will manage my time well enough to find a few moments to eat. One comforting thought is, my co-worker has already asked me to walk each day with her and that is great, it is easier for me if someone else is going too. I am not too motivated to exercise right now but if I tell someone I will go with them, because I don't want to let them down. Whatever gets me moving is alright with me!

Happy Monday and have a great week!

Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful for Herbal Tea. I know this is a shallow choice but when you are going through a weight loss program you find all the little things to be thankful for each day. Herbal tea is actually helping me out so much on this program. I have always been a big soda drinker (mostly diet soda), but since I have discovered my new love for herbal tea I am a changed woman. I drink water all day at work and when I get home at night I just want something with some flavor. If you are also going through a weight loss program or just want to change things up a bit, I highly recommend trying your favorite flavor of herbal tea hot or iced!

McFatty Monday Update

http://asuperworld.blogspot.com/Well this past week was difficult. I am trying not to point the finger and take responsibility. I was home all week with my son on spring break. My son is five and has an incredibly fast metabolism, therefore he asks for a snack every 20-30 min of the day. This forces me to go to the kitchen all day long and get him snacks. Of course I am not going as often as he would like, but every time I go pour him some goldfish crackers or pretzels I take a couple for myself. I did end up losing .5 pounds this week which is great. Playing at the park with him was probably the reason I actually lost weight.

Now I am back to work and my regular eating schedule is back on track. I find it easier at work too since I am so busy, I actually forget to eat at times. This is also not good since I need to consume all my points each day. This is my second time through Weight Watchers and I have to say I am learning much more about nutrition and how my body reacts to the food I eat this time around. This time is not just about losing weight, it is about changing my relationship with food in general. I have a skirt that I really want to get back in this summer. I have it sitting on my dresser as a daily reminder of a goal. I am not a huge scale person, I measure my success far more by how my clothes fit and what clothes I can fit into.

Week three is going to be easier and better on the scale! Happy McFatty Monday Everyone!!

Losing weight is making me crazy...

I began my weight loss journey at Weight Watchers (which will be called WW) a week and a half ago and my Aunt Jackie is going with me so we can support each other and help keep the other on track. I started out at 242 with a 37 BMI which throws me in to the obese category.  I have never thought of myself as obese; overweight or heavy, yes; but not obese. My goal is to get down to 150 which will bring my BMI to 23. This seems like such a daunting and impossible task, but I have broken it up into smaller goals so I am not so overwhelmed. Last week I lost 2 pounds which is great and if I can keep that up each week it will only take me 11 or so months to lose all this weight. Holy Shit!! Did I just say 11 months????? I know this is much better than the alternative which will be a heart attack or stroke but OMG that is a long time.

At WW they say that you should not think of this as a diet, this is a lifestyle change. This is the hardest concept for me right now because I have thought of changes like this as a diet for so long. I, like most humans, do not like change. I like all the foods that put me in this position: chocolate, ice cream, doughnuts, lots of cheese, anything made with white flour, and cheesecake! The biggest problem is that I liked that list of items too much and too often. There have already been days where I just want to say “eff this” and go eat a big plate of Mexican food smothered in green chili and cheese, wash it down with a beer and have a fried ice cream at the end (not that I have my cheat meal planned or anything).

Today I was frustrated because I went to lunch with my mom at Garbanzo and had what I thought was a “healthy” meal but it ended up costing me 19 of my 32 daily points. Once I calculated this, the wind left my sails for the day. Now I am talking myself off the ledge so I don’t jump into chocolate land. I know tomorrow is a whole new day and will begin with 32 more points and a new attitude (I hope).
